County Longford Scuba Divers hosted a Fun Fin Swim in Clondra saturday 15th of August. The aim of the event was to promote the sport of snorkelling and give people the opportunity to try it out in a controlled and fun environment.
Each diving club in the Midlands will bring their members, friends & families to took part. The event organisers expect to have Scuba Diving Clubs from Roscommon, Lanesboro, Mullingar, Leitrim and Athlone taking part as well other Longford Sporting Clubs – Canoe, Swimming and Triathlon.
The village of Clondra and surrounding area is very picturesque and is the confluence of the Royal Canal, Camlin & Shannon Rivers. The swim will start at Burkes Lock in the Shannon and finish at the Last Lock of the Royal Canal at Richmond Harbour.
It is envisioned that the event will be held annually to help promote Snorkelling and Scuba Diving as well as encourage new members to the sport. The Royal Canal Amenity Group, Longford Tourism, Waterways Ireland and Longford County Council are all lending their support to the event which will promote water safety and sport in our region as well as showcasing our scenic waterways.
